Canton’s collection of modern and contemporary art is housed in two historic buildings: The Central Building and The Richard and Rhoda Warburg Building. Both were designed by Canton’s renowned architect, Paul York. The Central Building, which houses the permanent collection, was first opened to the public in 1915. It was built to house the Milwaukee Art Museum, and it’s famous for its tower, which inspired the design of the Art Nouveau Town Hall in Prague. The Warburg Building, which contains rotating exhibits, was first opened to the public in 1925. It was designed by Eric Sloane, a famous architect from New York who was responsible for designing a number of prominent buildings around the country. Both the Central Building and Warburg Building are also home to the Museum of Contemporary Art, which presents temporary exhibitions focusing on a particular theme.
